We believe that restoring dignity is the first step towards empowering individuals to rebuild their lives. Our hub offers hot showers, hygiene facilities, nutritious food, and mentorship in a compassionate, judgement-free environment.
Open Heart Community Hub is a Community Interest Company (CIC) founded by Sydney Mungoza and Azareel Gomez, driven by personal experience and a profound commitment to social justice. We exist to support homeless and vulnerable individuals in East London, with a particular focus on the often-overlooked needs of women.
Founded from lived experience, compassion, and a deep commitment to change, Open Heart Community Hub was born from witnessing the silent suffering that exists in our communities. Our founders recognised that behind every statistic is a person deserving of dignity, respect, and support.
East London is at the epicentre of a homelessness crisis. Boroughs such as Tower Hamlets, Hackney, and Newham are consistently ranked among the most deprived in England, with the highest rates of child poverty in the capital. Street homelessness in London has increased by 33% in the last year, and 14.1 million people across the UK are experiencing food insecurity.
Women experiencing homelessness face unique challenges. Research shows that 39% have experienced domestic violence, and many struggle to access basic hygiene facilities and sanitary products—fundamental necessities for health and self-worth.
We provide holistic support through a range of services, including:
At Open Heart Community Hub, we believe that dignity is deeply connected to wellbeing, community, and hope. We aim to build a safe, supportive environment where healing is possible and lives can be transformed.
We operate with transparency, compassion, and purpose—ensuring every service and interaction has real impact.
Whether you're someone in need of support or someone looking to help, you are welcome here. This is a space for you to feel seen, heard, and empowered.
Because when dignity is restored, healing begins.
Our mission is to empower homeless and vulnerable individuals—especially women—to improve their wellbeing through accessible, compassionate, and dignified support.
We are dedicated to creating safe spaces for nourishment, healing, and personal growth, using practical support, mentorship, and community connection to promote long-term stability and hope.
Supporting Dignity, Nourishing Hope & Building Community
We provide free access to hot showers, shaving facilities, and essential toiletries. For women, we ensure a consistent and discreet supply of sanitary towels, tampons, and related hygiene products.
Access to these basic facilities is not a luxury—it's a fundamental necessity for health and self-worth. This simple act of care helps prevent health complications, restores self-esteem, and enables individuals to feel like a "normal person" again.
The centrepiece of our project is our community food hub. This goes beyond emergency food provision—we create a space where people can receive nutritious food in a dignified manner.
The hub also serves as a social space, reducing the isolation that is so common among homeless individuals. Our hub is a place of nourishment, both for the body and the soul.
The hub is a place for connection. We run personal development workshops, offer mentorship from people with lived experience, and provide a crucial signposting service.
We connect our clients with partner agencies who can assist with housing, education, employment, and mental health support. Our goal is to inspire and motivate individuals to actively work towards bettering their current situation.
We offer workshops focused on:
We work with local educational agencies, housing services, mental health providers, and employment support organisations to ensure comprehensive support for everyone who walks through our doors.
"At Open Heart Community Hub, we believe healing isn't one-size-fits-all. That's why our support is compassionate, practical, and community-driven."
